Three Questions You Should Ask Your Electrician

Researching positive recommendations from friends or the internet are usually the best methods in finding a qualified electrician. Look for punctuality and working in a quick and timely manner. This is a value-added quality since the hourly rate electricians charge can affect your pocket book.

Once you’ve selected an electrician in your area,  be sure to ask these three important questions before hiring your electrician:

“Are you licensed?”

“How long have you been in business?”

“Can you provide me with good references?”

First and foremost, make sure your electrician is certified and insured. This is for both your protection and the electricians to prevent a potentially dangerous experience.
Longevity means they have a sufficient amount of experience and great references indicate the work was done with satisfaction.

When to Shut The Power Off

Always shut off the power to a circuit or device that you will be working on. This is the first thing you should do before working on any electrical circuit. I don’t know anyone who has been shocked by a circuit that is not energized.
Be sure to take safety precautions even when changing a light bulb-make sure the light switch is in the off position when changing any bulb.

In case of emergencies be sure you and your family members know how to turn the power off.
Always think safety first!

How To Find a Good Electrician

Finding a qualified electrician is easy when you know what to look for. You can assume a certain level of competence when an electrician shows you his state license, but there are other things to consider, as well.

A qualified master electrician has passed a standardized test and has at least two years of experience under his belt. He knows the National Electrical Code and any modifications that your state has made to it. He is qualified to plan, design, install and maintain an electrical system for your project.
A journeyman electrician hasn't qualified for a master's license, yet he too is licensed by the state (some states require journeymen electricians to work with a master electrician). What that means is;  by law he cannot design systems, but he can install wiring and equipment and wiring.

CityBay Electric is one less thing to worry about!
Most electrical work will require a permit issued by your local building department. So, before the building inspector can sign off on any of the work, the inspector must take a look at your electrician's work to see if it's up to code.

Most electricians tend to specialize in the types of work they do. General contractors usually have a short list of dependable electricians they keep on hand. If your contractor can't give you a good recommendation, check with reliable websites like Service Magic be sure to convey the type of work you are doing so they can properly match the right electrician to your job.

Why You Need a StandBy Generator

Blackouts. Thunderstorms. Tornadoes. Earthquakes. High winds.
Weather disasters and power outages can be frequent occurrences throughout the country.
Purchasing a standby generator for power can be the first step to regaining control over protecting your family, business and possessions from harm. Especially, when using a standby generator is as simple as operating any basic household appliance. So after you’ve selected a generator, here are a few tips that can help you keep power on through the any predicament.
Check You Standby Generator’s Connection Method
Connecting your standby generator can be as simple as plugging in a tool or appliance. The difficulty comes in when you want to run items that are hard wired to your homes electrical system such as a furnace fan, lighting and a water pump.
Three Options to Consider For Connection Your Standby Generator
        1. Extension Cords: Simply plug the extension cord into your generator and run it through any open door or window to the item you wish to power. Careful not to overload your cord. Always use at least 10–12 gauge cord and try to limit the length to 100 feet or less.
        2. Extenda-Panel Extension Cord: This cord combines 4 heavy duty extension cords into one, thus eliminating the tangle of multiple extension cords. This cord plugs into your 30 amp, 240v receptacle on your standby generator and delivers up to 7200 watts through 4 different receptacles.
        3. Power Transfer System: A Power Transfer System is a definite must if you plan to use your portable standby generator to operate appliances hard wired to your home's electrical system. The Power Transfer System is the safer, faster and a more convenient way to power up to 10 household circuits for up to 7200 watts of power. This comes with a power cord and inlet box that mounts outside your home, conveniently eliminating all open doors and windows.
